\"Exotic\" mine sweeper!
Since alarge mine does 1200 damage at max tech and each is treated as a seperated battle, what if you have a baseship with 41 pieces of organic armour III? 40 of these will generate exactly 1200 damage points per turn plus a spare (you need at least one intact piece for regeneration), you can run over an infinite number of mines without getting hurt!

Re: \"Exotic\" mine sweeper!
woudln't it be cheaper to just build a mine-sweeper with mine-sweeping components ??

Re: \"Exotic\" mine sweeper!
Well, I need somebody to confirm that it actually works. And LemmyM, if it works you can clear an INFINITE number of mines with ONE ship, which means no more nasty surprises over that Last homeworld!

Re: \"Exotic\" mine sweeper!
that ship would be usefull ( if it works ) in PBW games i guess, but in my unmodded singleplayer game i've never encountered a mine field bigger than 30. Need only a light cruiser or something to clear it.

Re: \"Exotic\" mine sweeper!
One drawback - it wouldn't be very good in a fleet - you'd have to send it in before the fleet.

Re: \"Exotic\" mine sweeper!
but if it works, you can use it as a cloaked mine-sweeper.
That opens up a lot of possibilities. I tried to make a cloaked mine-sweeper with normal mine-sweeping components, but it blew up after entering a warp point while cloaked.

Re: \"Exotic\" mine sweeper!
I thought that organic armour only worked when you were in combat.
I seem to recall back in my organic days that if you went through one of those damaging warp points the armour didn't repair itself until you actually entered combat.

I used that in Deathstalker's Game on PBW; just add a repair bay and enough OA to have one piece left on the other side in case there's a welcoming committee.
That's a change I'd like to see in a patch or SE V: variable damage from unstable warp points and storms, so you don't know exactly how much armor you'll need to get through.

Re: \"Exotic\" mine sweeper!
Probably, but not as much fun. Besides, in combat all that organic armour could ram just about anything into oblivion and then shrug off the damage. (only in tactical though=-(

Re: \"Exotic\" mine sweeper!
Well, I did a test and the ship got itself killed after detonating about 8 mines. Looks like organic armour doesn't regenerate after taking a mine hit.
