OT: My current webhosting isn\'t worth what I paid.
 And it's $7 a month.
That, at least, is my conclusion, having spent two hours creating a website skeleton in Drupal and then two and a half trying to upload it.

You can only upload and download individual files.

Oh, and the database importer doesn't work.

It's Bluehost. I do not recommend it.

Did you ever manage to get the alleged shell access working? If so, you can upload an archive file and extract it on the server.
And yes, $7/month for "unlimited" space and bandwidth is always something to be avoided in a web host.

 Ummm...you can only upload/download 1 file at a time?
I have used BH for over 2 years now and I upload/download multiple files/even folders at the same time a lot. My primary way is the UnlimitedFTP feature or I just FileZilla to FTP and upload. The both work great.

Getting shell access working requires sending them id.
I've been using the File Manager.

Importing a database with phpMyAdmin doesn't work - It says it succeeded, but the database isn't added.

I uploaded it manually, but my Drupal website can't access it - Possibly because databases may need both the site database password and the database password, which aren't the same.

 Dreamhost. That's all I'm saying.
I pay like $100 a year for FTP access to my URL which is easy to get to with FileZilla, all the MySQL I can eat (it's limited...somehow...but I won't ever use all that much), PHP 4 or 5 depending on which I want, and more bandwidth and diskspace than I actually need.

They're by no means perfect, but they're cheap and haven't let me down yet.

I'm inclined to say dreamhost as well.
godaddy, while cheap and filled with friendly support has a control panel designed so badly that not even an MIT grad could use it and good luck finding your email settings there. Plus they nickel and dime you on every feature.

Ipower which is also cheap has horrible support and recent control panel upgrades put it on par with godaddy. They used to be good, but now getting support on the phone is like trying to part the red sea with a toothpick. Their left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing and billing can get lost easily. In the last 3 months they've lost 4 of my accounts accidentally and screwed up all 10 of them trying to "upgrade" them to a new system.

As for dreamhost, they have some bad points, but they seem to be the least of worst of the discount web hosts.
