				 better retreat controls
while it's understandable that troops that break from combat would scatter, given that it's a whole month we're talking about, it'd be nice if there was a chance to get them better gathered. but more pointedly, the fire and retreat order for archers, since they're doing a controlled retreat rather than a rout, you should really be able to have them stick together in a squad and retreat to a province of their choice.

old wish for a better fire and flee... I can just agree, but seems so unlikely at this point... |

Yes. Retreats should *RETREAT*, not flee! Scattering them is fine if they rout but you should have control if you order it. |

I'd be nice if Vortex of Returning didn't break up squads, too.

				 Re: better retreat controls
Retreat = rout is just ridiculous. When a leader orders his troops to retreat, it's not just "RUN FOR THE HILLS EVERY MAN FOR THEMSELVES", it's "ok meet at this location for regrouping." The fire and flee command is essentially useless. Is the command only there so people can misclick it by accident to lose the game or something? Because I'm confused. |

Fire and Flee would be pretty useless even if retreating were orderly--you need more than two rounds of concentrated fire to make a difference, unless you have so much firepower present that you'd win the battle anyway. The only cases I can think of that might justify Fire and Flee are 1.) banefire bows, 2.) black bow of botulf, 3.) bow of war (since you only have 7 shots anyway). Unless banefire archers can retreat without dying (I can't remember but I think so) these are all commander orders, not troop orders.
Actually I lied. I guess you might consider setting javelin troops on "Fire and Flee" as well. Although it would be nice if it actually let them get off two *shots* instead of just two *turns* before fleeing.

				 Re: better retreat controls
I guess thats why its not called "Fire and Retreat". And since its not on the commanders list, but only on the units list, then I guess the result is rather appropriate. A squad told to fire and flee with no commander is not expected to retreat.
But I do wonder why "Fire and Flee" is even on there. I would much rather have a "Fire and Retreat" option. Maybe as a commander option.

Has anyone tested if the results we want can be gotten with commander commands?
