I've attached an AP Weapons Penetration Guide in Excel format.
You only need a ‘read’ version of MS Excel to use it.
This differs from my old calculator/guide as the data is taken from the game designer's peneration calculator, rather than from my calculator, so the figures are more accurate.
If you print it out, it can be used as a penetration quick reference guide.
I've attached the Penetration Guide to this post in ‘Letter’ and A4 size, so it will print on one page.
Important AP Weapon Guide notes:
1. This guide shows the
average penetration. The actual penetration may vary by several cm.
Maximum penetration is often 1 or 2 more than the average for most weapons, but can be 3 or 4 more than the average for sabots and large warheads. Maximum penetration is not common.
2. To hit a
weak spot - and get even greater penetration - the range must be less than 500m and the hit chance at least 80%.
3. These are the average penetration figures, taken from the designers
penetration calculator.
The penetration calculator is in the game's WinSPWW2 folder, named: WW2_APCalc.exe
4.
NB. Gunners may fire
HE ammo if it's likely to get better penetration and they may fire
HEAT ammo if available.
5. Please note that most WW2
sabot ammo has a shorter range than regular AP ammo.
An exception is British sabot ammo, which was the only 'true' WW2 sabot, and was more effective.
Therefore, non-British Gunners may fire AP even if they have sabots, if AP is likely to get better penetration at longer ranges.
6. The suffixes: L48, L70 etc. indicate the
barrel length. L70 is 70 calibers long, so 7.5cm x 70 = 525cm or 5.25m.
NB. British and US barrel lengths were measured from the mouth of the chamber to the barrel end (bore length), but continental nations, including the USSR, measured from the rear face of the breech, giving a longer measured length.
7. If you have a 'write' version of Excel, I encourage you to
change the weapons in the Guide to ones you often use or face.
