Scenario Idea: Solar Nationalism
I have this idea which has been in my mind for awhile. Hopefully, I'll be able to explain it. The basic story is that after the discovery of the warp point, several Terran nations sent colony ships out, each claiming a star system for its' own (IE, there would be an American System, a British System, a Japanese System, etc). Large numbers of Earth's citizenry move to their repsective nation's colonies, leaving the earth with only about a quarter of its' usual population. The colonists just started out, but there is already tension in the Terran Sector; Some of the systems contain the huge sphereworld planets, previoulsy undetected by Earthly science. Humans could not possibly have built it, as their most powerful stellar weapon at the time is still the Delepted Uranium Cannon. It is undeniable proof of extrasolar intelligences. The UN, governing the Earth, is unsure of what to do, and internal struggles break out. A few months after that discovery, the Earth is engulfed by a mysterious explosion, wiping the planet clean. The now-stellar nations can only suspect one another. Eventually, they would run into a colony of the infamous 'greys' and a few other species. Sphereworlds and other artifical constructs would be scattered about the area, leading to theories of a long-dead alien empire.
While this would be on a huge map, it would only cover about 1/12 of one precent of the galaxy, as it is made up of billions of stars.
For the shipsets, all that would be needed is simple editing; Take existing shipsets, remove the population portrait, and replace it with the respective national flag. The names and diplomatic communication would be a piece of cake.
I have one more idea for this. A few small clusters of systems would be blocked from all the others, with no warp points connecting them to the outside. Inside are some nations that shouldn't, or couldn't be there, such as Soviet Holdouts, a mysterious fragment of the Roman Empire, or even a Fascist colony that was built using odd experiments in warp technology.
Tell me how this sounds, oki?

Re: Scenario Idea: Solar Nationalism
Would someone be able to build this scenario? I would be able to do the story, empire information, planet names, etc. I'm not very good with shipsets and graphics.
BTW, what's Earthclan?

Re: Scenario Idea: Solar Nationalism
Sounds like you have to make a different 'race' for each faction, otherwise you cant alter the pop portrait.
Or you could go without the flags, make em all terrans but with different starting names.

RE: making the scenario
Is the standard SE4 race spread OK, or do you want all of these factions to start two WP hops from earth, for instant contact & more teamwork/infighting?

Re: Scenario Idea: Solar Nationalism
Spread about, normally. There would be sphereworlds thrown about the map, probably with lost components and ruins on them.
Essentially, to create the individual nations, all that would be needed to do (roughly) is to replace species portraits with a large flag, and some name changes (Emporer, titles, etc). For instance, the UN holdouts that survive the destruction of Earth, specifically a Martian colony, would be filled with different citizens, at least one million from each nation.
I've also noticed that there are very few scenarios/maps out, especially ones that deal with our solar system.
BTW, you guys rock.

Re: Scenario Idea: Solar Nationalism
EarthClan was an old SE3 (2?) era web site. One of the first fan sites. There used to be a copy of it stored on Hadrian's Ark of Ages, but I don't think its there anymore.

Re: Scenario Idea: Solar Nationalism
this sounds like a cool scenario, i think if you could find a way, i have been trying to... and got this from Imperator Fyron in another post
quote: To play a scenario, you'd have to have all the empires passwords and play the first X turns for all the empires to set up the starting conditions. Then you'd have to create a game on PBW. You'd use the assign players function to assign all the players in the exact order that they appear in the scenario, or else they'd get the wrong turns. Then once all the players are set up on the server, you'd start the game. Then, upload the scenario save to the server as a replacement turn, and you players would then be able to get hte first turn of the scenario adn you'd be under way
Obviously there would be no starting message i think. I will test this asap (when PBW is Online again). The scenario idea allows super cusomizaiton. Even with an ancient race that is actually long dead (no planets) but has ships all over that can be captured (AI will not do anything once it has lost all planets). And as a scenario all the humans could be made to start near 'Sol' to simulate the real movement. I would like to help you with this but am kinda busy with finals (next week...ahhhhh)
EDIT-fixing my quoting

Re: Scenario Idea: Solar Nationalism
I know. I have finals too. I also agree with another post that asked Malfador to include a thing like Civ2's 'cheat' menu. Though it would allow people to cheat easier, it would be invaluable in creating scenarios. I also think it would be very easy to include an option in the map editor where you could have a message before a scenario starts, sort of setting the scene.
