Default Crappy map editor

I’m working again in the Star Wars Galaxy Map, it will be nice to have it working for the Sci-fi Crossover Mod.
I know this has been posted many times before, but the map editor is really hard to use.

I want to be able to manually add a system, selecting a type from SystemTypes.txt and having it generated the same way the map generator does, with all random planets and values.

Adding warp points is a hell. The only thing you can select with the mouse is the entrance point.
Then you have to select destination system. To do that you have to close the window and check the name of the system, then go back and select that name and manually enter coords inside that system.
And like if all that work wasn’t enough, you can only make a 1 way warp point and have to repeat the process to make the other way.
It’s easier to add warp points by using stellar manipulation inside the game, than using the editor!!!

What I want is manually pick two systems and have them automatically joined by a normal 2 ways warp point, with the entrances located in the default locations in the edge of the system and according to the warp line angle.

Yeah, I'll second that - well most of it

I have taken the time to make a B5 map and started placing planets by hand (around 220 systems) and have finsihed all the warp points, but my finger has just about fallen off trying to add the 5+ planets per system!

I would love to see a system generator that would let you do one specified system type at a time, but with an option that would allow it to keep any existing objects in the system (so you can place Warp Points and then gen the system).

Would also REALLY love a variable delay setting on warp points, so modders who want there to be a delay between system jumps can do them. Self closing warps for a component would be nice as well.

Do these interest anyone else?

I agree that the map editor is very tedious for creating warp connections. If you could just give the instruction to connect two systems with normal warp points without caring about the exact location of the warp points, that would be great. An other possibility that would save a lot of work is the insert function of a complete solar system that you saved before.

Yes Val, the idea to have warp travel time is cool, as is the idea of warp points that close when used (gee... a warp drive... what a concept).

You know something cool...

Make a warp point from system A at point '4,6'
Have it point to System B at point '5,7'

Now, go to system B and add a Warp Point to System A at point '6,9'.
Have it point to System A point '4,6'

Now start a game and warp away!
