Welcome me (+answer Questions)
I finally made it to register my nick
Well im looking forward to join this community here, though i have some questions regarding the game
Im playing SE 4 since 2 weeks now, spent quite some hours with it, must be more than 18 hours, still there are some things i dont understand...
Construction of Ships...is there any way to increase the speed ? other than upgrading Shipyards and adding more population to a planet, i dont see a way how i could get my ships faster...
then, is there actually a reason why EACH race hates me ? i dont know why, i always send a pleading general message, i ask about nap's and so on, but suddenly a race declars war, i cant seem to stay at peace with at least ONE race
I usually play in a Large Cluster universe with a medium ammount of players, and om not an offensive player, i try to get satelittes onto each Warp-Gate to secure myself, im nearly never attacking enemys, so why do they declare war ?
Another, more important thing.
I downloaded all those things needed for the Babylon 5 Mod, i had about 10 .zip, unzipped them all into one folder and copied it into my se4-folder, but when i launch the se4-mod-chooser i always get quite some errors with the mod, something about that some things are wrong with the settings.txt it tells me that different parts are missing, so what can i do ? i sure i downloaded everything, except those 2 files names xx21-22.zip and 22beta.zip something like that, because both of them werent avaiable, i always got a 404 error
If someone can help me out, would be great.
You can aswell email me those zip's at Chris_Finke@web.de
Hope we will have a good time here in the Boards, i wont ask so much again
btw- Im from Germany, please excuse the typos and grammar mistakes.

They want what you have. Also, some races are just plain ole aggressive.

Welcome to the Boards!

Here are all the ways to build ships faster:
1) Take Hardy Industrialist racial ability
2) Put racial points into Construction
3) Research Space Yard Construction (or whatever its called)
4) Fill up large and huge planets of your atmosphere with population.
5) Emergency Build (careful though, cause after 10 turns build rate drops to 25%)
6) Set up a retrofit chain. Design a series of upgrades for your normal ship designs. If your final ship X costs 10000 minerals, copy it and remove components so that this new ship hull (X A) costs 6667 minerals or more. Build the prototype X A, and then retrofit it to ship X after it is built. If you make 2 prototype hulls, then you could have the first in the series cost 4445 minerals or more. Call it ship X B. Build ship X B. Retrofit to ship X A. Then retrofit to ship X. While the ship is being retrofitted, you can build another ship X B. You cannot retrofit a ship to a new design unless the cost (of each resource type, taken separately) is less than 50% more than the cost of the ship being retrofitted. So, use this formula for each step in the retrofit series:
Base ship cost = 1.5x, where x= the cost of the next ship in the series.

When your score reaches a certain percent (I think 300) of the score of the 2nd place empire, then you trigger the Mega Evil Empire state (MEE). While in this state, all AIs will declare war on you and will not make peace.

Look at the folder stucture for normal SEIV. Copy it when compiling the B5Mod. Your new folders should look something like this (I left out most of the folders):
C:\Space Empires IV\
--------\Data\
--------\Pictures\
----------------\Components\
----------------\Facilities\
----------------\Races\
--------\Babylon 5 Mod\
----------------\Data\
----------------\Pictures\
--------------------\Components\
--------------------\Facilities\
--------------------\Races\
------------------------\Centauri\
------------------------\Earth Alliance\
------------------------\etc.
Hope that helps!

Re: Welcome me (+answer Questions)
Another way to increase construction: build orbital space yards. Doesn't increase single ship rate, but you can build as many as you like.
Many AI aliens will get mad if you have ships or colonies in systems that they claim. See the Borders map. If you start out too close to their homeworlds, peace may not be possible.
Some AI are actually relatively peaceful. Toltayans and EEE seem pretty easy-going.
For Babylon 5, I'm not sure but if it is for the pre-Gold Version still, then it might not work. I would ask in the Babylon 5 forum thread here.

Re: Welcome me (+answer Questions)
The B5 Mod is being made in pre-gold SEIV. It will be converted to gold after it is done, so that there will be a Gold and a Non-Gold Version. This is because it's easier to upgrade a mod than it is to downgrade it.

Re: Welcome me (+answer Questions)
There are some Gold AIs posted on the B5Mod homepage, but aside from that, none of the datafiles are Gold yet.
Also, I'm hoping to make installs a bit easier with the next Version I put up on the board. Something that will eventually let you choose Gold or Standard as you go to install it.

Re: Welcome me (+answer Questions)
If you want to fix the AIs yourself, the second link in my sig points to step-by-step instructions for converting older AIs to stop generating those errors in Gold.
