Idea for PBW game your feedback
Hi All,
I am looking to start a PBW game where everyone has a different victory condition other than Last empire standing. Hopefully this will encourage more interesting play other than just search and destroy, and give players a chance even if they are behind the bigger empires. Each player would keep secret what there victory condition would be.
Some thoughts I had for victory conditions were the following:
Player 1 Xenophobe - Build Ringworld
Player 2 Warlike - Be the Last one of two players(the purpose of this one is so that the game doesn't degenerate into war because everyone knows that if players wipe each other out someone will win)
Player 3 Peaceful - Survive until turn 150 (the purpose of this one is to promote some fighting and urgency cause everyone knows that someone is just trying to wait out the game)
Player 4 Gnome of Zurich - Have an income of 3 million in total resources for 10 turns
Player 5 Technologist - Have an income of 1 million in research for 10 turns
Player 6 Slaver - Relocate at least 100 million of each race to your home planet
Do you think these would be fair or how would you tweak them so that they are not impossible or too easy? Does anyone have additional suggestions for victory conditions?

Re: Idea for PBW game your feedback
Sounds interesting.
Xenophobe is going to have problems cause it will be too easy to figure out what he's up to.
Slaver should be relocate x pop to your home system, not hour homeworld. Cause if you put them on your homeworld it becomes a dome and you can't put anybody else there without removing all your pop. Put them on other planets in your home system or on bases in orbit around your homeworld would work.
What about collector. Capture x number of ships from every other player either through intel or boarding and keep them for x turns.

How about "Playful"
Goal: Move Seven Huge Planets into the shape of a smiley face, using the central star as a nose. Also, remove all other stellar objects from the system, such as storms & excess planets or stars.
This can be done, all you need is decent Stellar Manip tech and a simultaneous game of Gold Patch #1 (or earlier I believe).
For bonus points, make the mouth out of hydrogen planets, and the eyes a matching blue, brown, or green.

"Move Seven Huge Planets into the shape of a smiley face,"
How exactly do you DO this?

Re: Idea for PBW game your feedback
I think the Peaceful race has it too easy. 150 turns is easier to do in a larger universe with quite a few players than any of the others. I would say suggest giving the peaceful multiple goals:
-Must survive at least 150 turns. (so he can't win before turn 150. this gives enough time for him to meet and piss off other empires)
-Must be at peace with n% of the existing empires for so many turns in a row, or...
-Must not lose or kill a planet, ship, satellite, drone, etc etc etc for so many turns.
Just 150 turns doesn't make him peaceful. He can kill and pillage for those entire 150 turns.
Another idea I had about alternate goals was along the lines of some of the newer rules for RISK. The capitol game in particular.
Would go as follows, more or less:
First mod in a facility that does really nothing, and call it a palace. Start a game with a decent number of players (no AI) and five or ten planets. Then on the first turn each player would pick a planet to be their capitol, scrap a facility on that planet and build the palace.
The winner is the person who captures so many capitols of the total number. You could even put a number of turns he must hold them.
First off, this would change the flow of the game, in that people would look, not to destroy one another completely, but simply find and take their capitol. Some rules would have to cover the destruction of capitol worlds. I suppose the population hit points could be massively upped so that it would be hard to destroy a multi-billion pop world. However, to make it interesting, and since I always found the notion of a stalemate in Chess fascinating, a destroyed capitol cannot be transfered. Meaning, if your capitol is destroyed, you cannot move it. However, if the empire, whose empire was destroyed gains back the space his capitol was located, he can rebuild the capitol on the world where it used to be. Destroying your own capitol would have to be Banned, and so would purposely allowing someone to destroy your capitol. However, if say empire A is about to win by capturing empire B's capitol, thus putting him over the required amount, empire C may fly in at the Last moment and glass empire B's capitol, thus preventing empire A from winning temporarily. Well, that is the theory of it.
Destroying a capitol brings the attacker nothing, so a great deal of emphasis would be put upon ground combat. And alliances would be temporary, given that if you attack he who holds the most capitols, the allied will eventually squabble over who gets the spoils.
Just an idea...and one someone else has probably had.

Re: Idea for PBW game your feedback
hmmm, I like the capitol idea, if it could be done without hardcode, hiding the capitol would have to be consideted so its not that easy and so you would have to ck most of the players planets. One way you can usually tell core world is by population counters (the little ones in the box over the planet). Turn this off if possible so no one could tell how much pop is on a planet until its attacked and/or captured, this would cut down on the process of immediate ellimination and would make each player colonize as many worlds as fast at possible to confuse your enemy. Also, how about Team Play,(Multiple teams not just 2) each team has so many players, each team could have certain goals and/or restrictions. This possibly could be done now without a lot of changes to the game
be careful, be very very careful
look to the sky
its "THEM"
just some ideas mac

Re: Idea for PBW game your feedback
This is such a good idea, i will definately play if you start it on PBW, not just email i can't ever get around to that. I think if you give everyone dif victory objectives without tellign them they will have to guess and then if the xenophobe is careful he/she can easily assemble the world.
ej: build 21 super good constructor ships, have them go to a 400+ mined star, mine all the warp points, hey even close most all but one and then super link that so no more can be opened and then mine it heavily, then put about a million ships there and wait for your bases to complete. but that's kinda intuitive.
as previously the slaver would have to have slave bases or something as it wouldn't be possible otherwise.
