Default 2 questions

  1. How do you turn Cloaking on when installed on a ship or base?
  2. Can you have more than 1 Repair Bay on a ship or base?
  3. If you can have more than one - do the effects stack or does it repair more than one ship/base at a time?
  4. Typically - a repair ship has to fleet with a ship. However - since we can't fleet bases with ships in 1.78 - can bases with repair bays still repair ships?

    Yes. As long as there's room, of course.

    The effects stack; all repair bays and shipyards in a sector stack together when the game determines how many components are repaired in a given turn; and the repairs can be scattered among multiple ships. I think that repairs are used to completely repair one ship before applying toward the next ship, though. So repairs aren't completely parallel.
  4. Typically - a repair ship has to fleet with a ship. However - since we can't fleet bases with ships in 1.78 - can bases with repair bays still repair ships?
    That's just a convenience; simply being in the same sector will allow repairs to commence. That's why a planetary shipyard can perform repairs on ships in orbit, even though you certainly can't fleet with the planet.

Anything that can cloak will have the Cloak icon lit when that vehicle is selected. (It's the ship with a circle around it, between Scrap Facility and Use Component.) A cloaked vehicle will have the Uncloak icon lit (ship without circle, just below Cloak). IIRC, both commands are hotkey Z.

Both Repair Bays and Construction Yards stack; more than one ship can be repaired if there's enough total capacity to finish one ship's repairs. [ Edit ] Oh, and racial/cultural modifiers to Repair apply to the combined total, not the individual components/facilities.

This is incorrect; the repair ship/base/shipyard doesn't have to be in a fleet, just in the same sector.

Isn't it curious that a shipyard (construction) component will stack (more than 1 on a ship) - but you can only have one SY/planet?

No, no. The Repair ability of the spaceyards will stack.

You are only allowed one spaceyard per ship, but you can have spaceyard + repair bay.

IIRC you can't have more than 1 SY per ship, but you can have more than one RB..... REpair stacks, not builds.

Huh? There's nothing really strange here; if you have, for instance, 3 bases orbiting a planet, and each base has 1 spaceyard, and the planet has a spaceyard, then ALL FOUR spaceyards can be used to REPAIR either a single ship or multiple ships. That is, the REPAIR ability "stacks". On the other hand, each spaceyard can only BUILD a SINGLE ship at a time. That is the BUILD ability does NOT "stack".

In addition, since the Repair Bay component does not have the build ability, you can put multiple repair bays on a single ship or base. AND, the repair ability from all those repair bays will combine with the repair ability from all spaceyards in the SECTOR.

Does that clarify things? Or have I been smoking too?
