Re: The "It came from MOO3" PBW Game
depends on you really, to learn the game mechanics you might try large map, midlife, medium ai players, 5000 racial points, no bonus for ai. but if you want to have challenge right off the bat, same except med or high aggressivness, low bonus, med to high ai or pick the ones you want. Make sure you upgrade to newest patch. 1.84 and after learnning system try the mods.
for beginners I'd stick with lower settings until you learn some of the mechanics,
have fun, enjoy, welcome to the forum

Re: The "It came from MOO3" PBW Game
There are alot of Newbie games on PBW, some of them with open spots.
Otherwise one can always start a new game and call it something starting with Newbie. Then it will fill up fast.
(I'd recommend against choosing the Terran Imperium in Newbie Galctic Combat II though, they are on the verge of collapse) (I'mm killing them myself...)

oh, i'm not a newbie to the game, just to pbw. I thought the recent influx of MOO3 players would be a good time to start

Sorry. Misunderstood you then.
But to start as replacement isn't such a bad idea. Then you get some input on how others start their games.

Re: The "It came from MOO3" PBW Game
I was in your situation just two months ago. I recomend joining a game or two as a replacement player first to get the feel for how PBW works.
Next step:
Fast and furios: KOTH or the 2003 open challenge.
Like to RP ? Try one of Tescos games.
