Abilities Questions
Hello:
I would like to know something. Can anyone confirm if it is possible that some abilities (from the Abilities.txt file) can only be used on facilities and not on components?
Example: I tried to create a component with resource storage abilities, to make possible the construction of space storage bases (useful when you want to stockpile raw materials and you have no facilities slots available on the surface) but they donīt seem to work. Any comments?
Ex 2: A component with organics generation ability (something like a closed eco-system, which allows the production of food for live beings) It did not generate anything either. Did I make something wrong or there is abilities only for facilities and other for components? I know ship training works for both.
A Last question: Somewhere I read that it is possible to turn off the endless supplies for bases. I donīt think endless supplies are realistic, specially if the base is far from any planet. Anyone knows how is it done?
Thanks to all!

Re: Abilities Questions
Yes, some components only work on specific types of units.
To make a non-endless supply base, you need to make it a ship. Simply set the engines allowed to 0, and also copy the -50% maintance cost modifer from the base entries. Or change the default entries to "ship" from "base"

First, thank you for yor prompt answer. And sorry about asking again:
If you set engines to 0, I suppose you rule out the base thrust component which allows tactical combat movement only for bases, right? or there is a way to overcome this?
Thinking about: Would it be possible to make Stellites capable of tactical combat movement only (not a lot of mobility, say 1 or 2 squares, kind of seeker sats)?
Another one: What and where are the "Default entries"? My apologies for my ignorance!
Oh! I see, I think it refers to the line in the VehicleSize file, right?
I think I would have to edit the Base only componets with the Ship\Base allowance.
Thanks!

No. The engines allowed entry only refers to "Standard Move" engines, not "bonus move" "extra movement generation" or (important) "combat move"
Note, though, that none of those stack. So your base can put as many base thrust components on as it likes..but only one will work.

See above..same deal. use the combat move abiity.

Yup.
"I think I would have to edit the Base only componets with the Ship\Base allowance."
Also yes. Keep in mind they could be mounted on -any- ship they can fit on then.

Re: Abilities Questions
We have been asking the author to let components store resources, and also allow components to generate research and intelligence points, so we can have truly nomadic races that don't need to live on planets. Feel free to email SE4Gold@Malfador.com and request these things yourself. Every vote helps.

The only problem I see here is for a component I use (I dont remember where I took it from, I believe from Proportions) which is called "Fire Control Center" which gives a lot of improvement in accuracy to a base weapons. I think it will be
way to advantegeous to use in ships, anyone have an idea how can I prevent this to be used in ships (providing they have enough hull space?) Its a big component (100 kt). The others are not a problem, and besides after searching my Components file, ther were few components destined for bases only.

I can use the restriction "One Per Vehicle" to prevent AI wasting space and resources in using more than one thruster per unit, right?

no. The AI ignores all construction restrictions. I know there are other ways though, like not telling it to put more than one on in the first place.
