I am thinking about upgrading my HP POS but I don't know how to tell what my AGP is. Is it compatable with AGP 8x or not.

I have Geforce FX 5700 Ultra and I am thinking about buying a GeForce 7800 GS 256meg AGP 8x card.

the 5700 Ultra was only made as a AGP card so yes you have a AGP slot and judging by the age of your computer I would say its 8x but the newer card would work with a 4x

Have a peek in your BIOS settings, that will usually tell you. I wish I could tell you exactly what to look for, but my mobo doesn't have any AGP slots.

Thanks guys. As soon as I can afford it I am going to order the new video card. I need to figure out what kind of memory this POS uses and double it if I can.

Yes, I'm too lazy to look the info 'bout the pavillion up myself.
On the other hand, both will most likely result in the same thing .. there I go, hunting for info on the hp pages ..

AGP 8X — NVIDIA claims it will have the first AGP 8X-capable chipset on the market, which is a bold claim, since I have two chipsets already here in Damage Labs that claim to support AGP 8X. One of them, the VIA P4X333, I can even talk about. Of course, the P4X333's status as "on the market" is mighty questionable. Regardless, NVIDIA seems confident its experience in graphics will give it the edge in implementing AGP 8X in its chipsets.
