Default odd: unit starts the battle with red bar HP loss

I cant figure out why my one commander appears to have been harmed from the beginning of battle (as soon as the replay starts it has a little red bar underneath its icon). This is an immortal national hero for S&A, but is not my prophet. When inspecting its HP, it says "basic: 11, current: 14" (I have GoH up). It doesnt appear to be wounded, but the little red bar is there nonetheless. It has no self-harming items on him either. Any clues?

EDIT: Unit is not standing next to heat-generators or any other blatantly painful things.

He could've been hurt in an assassination attempt, or maybe from a spell such as Seeking Arrow.

Such an event never happened to him -- but as far as I know, such things give you afflictions, and afflictions are permanent wounds, not the red bar of HP loss that (as far as I know: always) is restored after every battle unless you are a "never healing" unit such as longdead.

If an unit loses HP in the assassination or magic rituals -phase of turn generation, that HP loss is still there in the combat phase, which comes after those two.

I've noticed this often with GoR, and (I think) with constructs and the Golem Cult theme. I think it's due to the hitpoints being adjusted only at the end of the turn sequence.

If his current HP is GREATER than his basic HP, then he's not wounded, he actually has more than he should because of GoH. There's nothing wrong. Just ignore it.
