Max Points
1.
What range of spent points can I use and still face
an uncurtailed enemy force on a human defend mission?
When I select personal and equipment that is integrated with
1985-2020 technological innovation it seems all to easy to
attempt go over the 65,000 point ceiling let alone spend
within the range that allows the AI a full force allotment on
a human delay or defend.
A.
Is the concept of mass space tech armies, unrealizable?
B.
What is
a good generalized purchasing
rubric for the purpose of equipping a sensible force
structure?

After some experimentation, I think the relevant point limits would be 26000 for the assault-defence scenario (1:2.5 advantage for attacker) and 32500 for the advance-delay scenario (1:2 advantage for the attacker).
Remember that if you are playing a campaign and manage to keep your units alive, they will gather experience from a battle to battle and this will increase the total value of your force. So for a modern campaign one might want to limit the starting value of the force to less than 26000 points.

Re: Max Points
Depends on the enemy, if it is against human and you are both fighting it hard, then the 32500 is a better "limit". Of course if both sides just unleash scouts ahead and leave their tanks etc hiding in case the sun sees them, you will be ok with less than 5K.
Personal favourite 32500.
A. Of course it is possible. Given enough technology and threats, it is possible we will have them even in 50 years or less. Unless you are talking about winspmbt, in which case no.
B. It depends on your side, the enemy side, your own preference in strategy, the terrain and weather, the year and the amount of money/points available.
Even then, you will always have people disagreeing on what is best. I like a good balance without any single type of unit going over the 50% of the total amount of units.
Others like infantry HEAVY, or armour. Many like a huge amount of artillery and airborne forces. Of course when planning anything is always a good idea to consider your opponent and what he might do or like. Too many variables for a single/simple answer.
I guess, a little bit of everything, could work, just make sure they overlap in what they can deal with so that you don't rely on any single type of unit for a specific enemy unit.

A lot less if campaign goes on for any length, 100 exp units are twice as expensive as 70 exp.

Re: Max Points
The only thing is, experienced units end up dying too.

Re: Max Points
Not that often though once they reach God status of mid 90s experince when I think the game engine starts to fail.
May be wrong as just observation but exp effects
Shots
Accuracy & thus overpenetration for armour
Detection of & by enemy units, sees & conceals better.
Rally at least if gained through a campaign, higher shrug off suppresion a lot easier.
Evasion of incoming fire.
In my view around the 100 mark becomes silly squads take point blank fire & shrug it off, tanks & helos dodge missiles consistently etc. So it becomes a lot easier to keep them alive & the experince keeps climbing making it harder still to get them.
They might get less reward from it but they are killing machines so it climbs fast, esp WW2 armour get it to 120exp or so you have double the shots allowing several 2nd & 3rd shot on targets in a turn just remember to buy some ammo resupply they may well need it.
So if your campaign is of any length need to sell them if you are playing near the limit or AI cant purchase enough forces.

Re: Max Points
Of course in a campaign game you could try to handycap yourself a bit if you go above the limit: place some of your units on your rear and then retreat them off the map on their first turn.

Re: Max Points
Fair point Greifbringer its also the only tactic you can use in a campaign if you are near the limit & want to buy support in a defend battle.
