Default cloaking and mines

I was thinking about the space monsters thread, and how a creature might be able to slip through a minefield undetected (and thus make them more of a mennace that could strike anywhere)and i came up with some questions.

how do mines detect targets? do they have built in sensors? if you have a high enough cloaking level, can you get through mines? I know if you have a high enough sensor level, you can see mines. I also know that you can change the cloaking level that a mine has.

related: can you change the sensor type on a mine such that a ship with a certain kind of cloaking would be invisible to mines but not to other ships with a basic sensor of that type built in (even though that would require editing something like the hull or bridge or MC to include level 1 sensor on all ships or something)

Mines do not care if the target is cloaked.

Mines hurt anything that enters the square where they are located.

What you could do, is give the Space Monsters a great minesweeping ability. Ie. they eat mines for snacks.

You could say that the monsters have tough stomachs, and use the chemical energy of the sweeped (and undetonated) mine warheads.

All the PD weapons (a static discharger) for monsters have built in minesweeping ability, not too high though. Basically mines will slow them down, not stop them. Actually, from what I've seen cloaking HURTS minesweeping, as you can't minesweep while cloaked and the AI dosen't turn off cloaks to sweep... instead the ships go boom.

I wanted mines to remain somewhat effective vs. the monsters, trust me... you'll need them. I finishing up some tests, and they're tough. HINT: They regenerate in combat, and I'm not just talking about their armor. One on One vs. the monsters is suicide... Also, their tentacles ignores shields, and when they mutate to produce acid secreation they ignore armor as well.
