Sins of a Solar Empire
After the huge dissapointed called "Sword of the Stars", this is my next favorite (even before SEV).

Very interesting imho.

Watching the fleet drop out of hyperspace is quite fun.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
"At this time, Sins of a Solar Empire will only be released for Windows XP however the technology, gameplay, and user interface were designed with consoles in mind."
This is a bad sign, even with the next question in the list. Its also entirely real time, which throws it straight into my "check the demo when you have time" pile. Not that I dislike RTS- its just when they up the scale too much they tend to get unplayable.

Sword of the Stars has been released? You've played it?

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
It is horrible though, so be warned.
Phoenix, you must agree the trailer looks pretty good doesnt it ? Something like a mix of Homeworld and SE

Just out of curiosity, what do you find disappointing about SotS? I'm ambivalent about it myself, wishing it had: more than three ship classes; more than just the single abstracted "planet" per system; capture of enemy planets (I dislike genocide, especially against my own species); retrofitting older designs; and tech transfer between allies. Also, while the unique-FTL-method-per-race feature may add to replay value, it seems like a very contrived way to do so. Perhaps most disappointing to me, the smallest of the three starship classes is only 30 meters long, i.e. shorter than the Space Shuttle Endeavor (37.2 m, mass 0.11 kt). It may be silly of me, but I prefer BIG starships in my 4X space games.
I like some of the other SotS features, and the demo may yet convince me to buy the game (haven't tried it yet), but in general I share your disappointment.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
There is an assault shuttle module, I haven't used it...but it seems those attack and capture planets, at least from the description...

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire
I haven't used assault shuttles in the demo yet, but my understanding is that they're only useful for planetary bombardment. Apparently planets never surrender, even to another faction of their own race which makes genocide mandatory.
