IED Blast Radius
I was playing around with Mujaheddin IEDs today and was surprised as to how far away I was getting casualties. Is there any indicator on blast radius on these weapons. I would say it was about 4 hexes.

Re: IED Blast Radius
On unit info look at warhead size to gauge area of effect.
Guessing you found a fertilizer bomb there, pretty damn scary not run a vehicle into one yet but my squad disapeared without a trace & the rest of the platoon were none to happy.

Re: IED Blast Radius
yep that's the one... warhead 96... so is there some mathematical calculation of radius based on that?
It wasn't pretty even the muj's HQ that set it off loss 80%...

Re: IED Blast Radius
If you turn blast the blast radius graphic on you'll see exactly what it is

Hmm.. it isn't safe to be anywhere near an IED, as shrapnel will fly all over the place

You are not wrong seen nothing more than diesel be deadly, three 50 gallon drums plus a bit of something to react with, set off by a British Army Explosive guy using a stick of dynamite.
Blast area was just under a mile & I do mean just under fist size peices landed about 20 feet away so I ran behind the Land Rover just in case.
Cheap big bang if know what you are doing

Re: IED Blast Radius
wow I didn't realise that they could affect distances that far... Next time I will back up more. I figured it would be just the hex plus maybe the 6 adjacent to it.

Re: IED Blast Radius
I find the new IEDs quite interesting. My observations so far:
- very hard to detect - even by veteran engineers!
- take very long to clear if that's possible at all
- may even be triggered after being spotted DURING the clearing
process (!) - very realistic,
(I havent even managed to clear my IEDs yet BUT noticed after my engineer was sitting 4-5 turns facing one, not moving + hoping it would clear it, suddenly during AI turn: KABOOM! + I get the message: Engineer triggers IED! OUCH!!)
Best strategy seems to be buying a heavily-armored mine-clearing or dozer tank to move ahead of convoys...

Re: IED Blast Radius
Can you not just destroy them from distance?

Fire your sniper rifles at them - only weapon (unit class actually) that works, to give the anti-material rifles some usefulness.
(Or just stay well away from the thing if it is not sitting somewhere vital, if you manage to spot it)
