Default Aran - The land of strife

Looking to start up a game, maybe get started this weekend. I have a p4 2.8 800mhz FSB, 1g RAM, cable modem, control my own firewall, etc. I have a girlfriend who understands my addictions, no kids, and a couple of cats who can sometimes cause problems by getting in some cables I mainly run winxp. I am a programmer/dba of 12 years and can troubleshoot alot of problems on the fly. Here are some conditions for anyone who wants to play.

1) You understand that internet gaming is notoriously unreliable and you are a patient person. You absolutly understand that the first try at this my be frought with peril and configuration issues. I understand that if I can't get things to work I can always just put my comp in the DMZ and not even worry about configuring ports. I will also make sure to save every turn, etc.

2) If you agree to play from whatever time to whatever time, you will be there. I am really looking for all the other vampires like myself who like all night gaming sessions. If you have a wife, parent, child, you have informed them of your addictive behaviors and are not going to get torn away by their neurotic whims Ok alot of this is just joking around, I understand their are emergencies and real-life things don't jive with computer game addictions. Basically your a mature person who honors your committments, can send an e-mail if theirs some problem so people won't be sitting around for hours waiting on you etc. On the other side your not some maniac whose going to stick your child in the closet with duct tape so they don't disturb your gaming session.

3) You agree to use whatever common messenger/chat client is chosen and have enough computer power to keep it running while the game is running. If you use windows or linux or a sun station, or have all available you will not argue some bias based posistion if the consensus chooses something leaning towards one of these platforms that you don't particularly like. Basically if everyone who wants to play is running windows were probably going to choose MSN or something, if we get all OS's it will most likely be mIRC or jabber or something.

4) If you do run the game in windowed mode and do other things while playing your not going to start downloading some 500mb file and potentially drop out of the game. And if there is some crash you will come clean on whats going on so we can figure out what is causing problems.

5) You have an e-mail address, know how to use e-mail, don't feel weird e-mailing people you don't know in real-life about gaming, and check your e-mail on some type of regular frequency.

If you want to play please say so in this thread if I get enough responses I will send out some info and hopefully try to get something together this weekend.

I'm a vampire but from your thread I don't think I can commit to that particular playstyle. Also I don't always have an exact # of hours to play per night. And of course between turns I'm usually working on some sort of project or another (Damn Ermor Units Spreadsheet).

Maybe a little less aggressive and more understanding? At least for some others around who arn't as flexible

Well, I'm in with Abysia if you dont mind, however there is a limit on how many turns I can do a day. If you are living in america, there would be a time difference of around 9 hours between us which makes it hard to find hours where both players are 1. not sleeping 2. not working

Well, I am interested in theory. Could you, however, give us an idea of what time zone you're in ? I am in France, and my evenings and late nights (when I am free and willing to play) may not match at all with other peoples'...
