Default Satilite loophole

IIRC, a base satilite component is 30-40 ktons, and holds 70 ktons of cargo. with a computer core, that's 60 ktons of wpns.

So you get about double your fire power, at the cost of the satilites not being able to move when deployed.

I glassed a comple of minor planets when my spy sat ship just pulled up along side and discharged it's 4 remaining CSM sats.

I don't think it is a loop hole as much as confusion over what the size really indicates. This has been debated in other threads and is one of those things that can only be answered by God, or Aaron.
I think the tactic is useful in certain situations but not against ships.

This is not a loop hole, just another way to fight. I put sat's around allie planets all the time. so when they declare war, I can take some of them out. Unless they have PD on the planet then you will lose all your sat's.

Wait a minute! Let me get this straight. You deploy satilites around your allies planets? Hmmm... I've never tried that before. Although it sounds rediculas in reality (I doubt anyone in a PBEM game would allow you to do that, at least not without something in exchange) at least its another trick in my book against AI opponents.

Why deploy satellites ? They cost much more than the equivalent damage from mines, and can not be seen to make anybody unhappy !

Satellites have two advantages compared to mines: First if the treaty is broken the satellites will blockade the colony. Second you can destroy the colony with the satellites.
Mines will only affect ships that enter the sector of the colony.
