Ship Designs Save question

Is there anyway to construct and then Save a complete ship/unit design list other than within the game itself?

I guess I'm asking whether the .emp file is editable?

MM seems to be unusually paranoid because both the savegame and the .EMP files are encrypted. He is probably concerned about hacking in multi-player games. I have not examined any saved ship design files but I suspect they will be encrypted as well.

So if anyone is going to make a either savegame editor or an EMPire file editor, it will be MM himself.

There is a file in each race directory call <race>_AI_designcreation.txt that dictates the designs if that race is computer played or you have the design minister on. What I do is design the ship in game, write down the comp's used and how many of each, then edit the file to recreate the ship the way I designed it. Of course it can take a couple of tweaks to get it exactly right and you have to restart a high tech game to see.
