Default How to: Get rid of old ship designs?

I was wondering if there was a way to permanently get rid of old ship designs that are associated with an empire. Its annoying to start playing with 50 different designs that you won't be able to use because of insufficient tech...

Thanks in advance

you can obsolete them, and click on the 'hide obsolete' button to make them disappear.

other than that, you can not permanently get rid of them.

Designs will permanently dissapear when:
a) They are obsolete
b) There are no surviving ships with that design
c) A small amount of time has passed (1-5 years)

Since SE3 or before.

When there is no longer any need to know the design, it is deleted.

Design plans are needed if:
- The design is not obsolete, and might be used in the future.
- There is at least one ship of that design floating around the universe.
- Another race has the design in their "enemy ship designs". In SE3, an enemy ship design was forgotten after 50 turns of not seeing it, either in combat or via LR sensors.

wow, thats great. i just checked a save game, and the only obsolete designs i have that are over 3 years old are those that saw combat. so if you have a new game with the same empire, all those old designs will go away?

and you could effectively 'flush' your design inventory by putting the race in a empty game and letting a few years pass without event. neato.
