Ritual of Rebirth
All,
Could not find a thread that answers this.
Ritual of Rebirth
Never used this spell but am contemplating it. The manual says it revives a previously dead hero from the hall of fame as a mummy. So... you cast it and then find a random dead hero from the HoF list in you prov the next turn? Does this include all dead heros or just yours? If there are no dead heros then... ziltch?

Re: Ritual of Rebirth
Experience, Heroic abilities, and magic paths are retained. The H3 on a prophet is retained, but not the prophet status (so you can re-prophetize them for even higher Holy magic).
Stats and other skills are replaced by those of the mummy. I can't recall all of them, but I think it is about 50 HP, ~12 in most other stats, and Undead status. The spell is mostly useful for a unit with special magic paths or a good/advanced heroic ability (remember, it continues to grow even when they are dead).

neither is the unit any longer sacred, which sucks if it was previously a bless chassis.
2 notes:
i) the heroic ability of the hero has continued to grow during death.
ii) there used to be a bug whereby the spell only worked on the (default) top 10 heroes in the HOF. It may have been fixed, though.

Re: Ritual of Rebirth
From my experience, you get a random hero of your nation from the HoF back from the dead. I don't know whether it counts ex-members of the Hall of Fame, i.e. ones that have gained heroic abilities but since been knocked down the list.
The mummy is an adequate thug chassis, but I think the best use is reanimating heroes with good magic paths. For instance, some national heroes give you magic paths you don't otherwise have on your national mages, and they can be well worth recovering. Be warned that mummies also have a disease cloud, so don't leave them near disease-vulnerable units on the battlefield, especially valuable ones.

If you have two heros on the list does it always choose the one listed higher? There is no provision for choosing between "Curly, Moe and Larry" correct?

Re: Ritual of Rebirth
Normal mummy is really crappy chassis, you get it for size 1-4 dead guys, so if you lose e.x. Troll King you lose a lot. Big Mummy is for size 5-6, better HP and stats.

Re: Ritual of Rebirth
Sea Kings are size 4, and they are transformed into giant mummies, so I think regular mummy goes for 1-3. Anyway even giant mummy is a crappy chassis for being lifeless and having "negative FR". However any mummy with heroic quickness and some magic wand may be very useful.

Re: Ritual of Rebirth
Also, don't forget that any heroic ability bonuses will just keep accumulating while the guy is dead in the HoF. The guy you bring back might possess some.. strange qualities. Especially if they've been rotting in the HoF for long.
The following pic is from a ancient MP game where I was playing Machaka. When I researched Ritual of Rebirth, I noticed that my Giant Black Spider prophet (dead for like 30+ turns) was still in the HoF with his heroic strenght. When I brought him back, I was pretty suprised..
Note that the guy in the pic is suffering from the "weakened" affliction (real bummer, huh?). I eventually equipped him with 2x Sword of Quickness and a Jade Armor for eight 80+ damage attacks per turn for some epic SC slaying. However, he got sent to hell and never came back. Must have been that negative fire resistance..
