How do you calculate effective range for opening wormholes? I don't see a scale on any map. Is there a conVersion factor for number of sectors = so many light years?

There is a conVersion factor of squares to light years. 10 LY : 1 map square, if I recall correctly. Actual distance is used on diagonals, not "grid distance," so use the Pythagorean formula if you need to get exact distance ( D = sqrt( dX^2 + dY^2 )).
Of course, a Large galaxy is no larger than a Small galaxy, it's just more densely packed with stars (BTW, in MOO3 there will be a galaxy size called "My God It's Full of Stars!" Serious! Unless they cut it... ) so in a Small galaxy the level 1 and 2 warp-point openers will be almost useless...
