Question about bless effects

If I use empowerment on my pretender to, for example, raise earth skill from 8 to 9, do I get the additional bless effects?

No. Items won't affect it either. On the other hand, if your pretender dies and is recalled with just Fire 8 left, you don't lose the bless.
