Default Restricting smoke discharger fire

During the AI turn, the human controlled units are under computer control, and tend to do things that are really annoying.

The biggest frustration is firing of smoke dischargers - this is often suicidal because those units can't see the advancing enemy for several turns, during which time they have got close enough to do serious damage. I'd rather my units stayed visible and kept firing, the risk is less than losing LOS on the enemy.

Two solutions occur to me but neither is ideal:

1. Mobhack the units to remove dischargers - but one day I might actually want to use them so this really isn't a good idea.

2. In the next turn move around my own smoke, not so bad when advancing but in delay and especially defend scenarios this loses the advantages of being dug-in or hull-down.

What I really want to do is stop the computer controlled firing of smoke, the risk of staying exposed may be less than the risk of breaking enemy LOS and I'd like to have that choice. Effectively an op-fire filter for smoke dischargers.

Anyone got any suggestions how to do this, or is it a non-starter due to the game code?

cheers,

Tim

Why not just go to the unit information window, and turn the S/D off?

Game Guide, Unit Info Screen, "Smoke Ammo" refers.

Cheers

Tim,

If you select a unit, then right click, it presents a unit info screen. Just below the four line items of weapons, you have the line for Smoke Ammo. It will have a number of 0 or greater, and if the unit has smoke dischargers, then it is followed by "sd" and some number. When you put your cursor over the "sd", notice the text that appears at the top of the sub-window. You can click on the "sd" to turn the dischargers on & off. The text will display either:

"Smoke dischargers free - unit may fire in reaction to enemy"
-or-
"Smoke dischargers off - unit will not fire in reaction to enemy action"

This appears the same in both WinMBT and WinSPWW2, by the way.
