Is there a limit to the number of characters in length a custom star name can be?

I'm getting random crashes and I've been over the files repeatedly.

The only thing I can think of (as a cause for the crash) is a custom star-name that seems to be 2 letters longer than any that show up in the base game. I've double-checked everything else I can think of, and it all seems normal.

did you shrink it by 2 letters and try running the game a few times? I wouldn't be surprised.

Yes, and I got 4 quick games in, then it crashed again. Which means I can't say with certainty that it was having any impact. It may be unrelated, or it may be responsible for a crashing happening 2 out of 5 times instead of just 1 out of 5. Grr.

I don't really feel like restoring the long name, playing 20 games, then removing the long name and playing 20 games to see if there's a difference in how often it crashes. More Grr.

I employ a team of trained monkeys to do that I like the rebooted mod idea of naming stars for their quest. you could try making *all* the names the extra long length; that way it'll be an all-or-nothing situation.
