Abandon colony?
Does anyone know what happens to the population on a planet when you hit the "abandon colony" button?
When I tried it, the population disappeared, so I'm wondering if it was automatically transferred somewhere else, or if I just lost it. Also, I believe all the facils disappeared also - do they get scrapped for cash, or are they just removed?

Re: Abandon colony?
I think the Pop is gone forever - to the Twighlight Zone if you will. However, when I abandon a planet, it gives me the option of scrapping facilities or leaving them. I can't remember which Version I'm using but I think its 1.19.

Re: Abandon colony?
I don't know why you are abandoning the planet but if you want to change colonist I use a small transport download the new colonists and upload the old. If you do it this way you do not loose the Last colonist and you have them all packed up to take to a planet with their atmosphere.

Re: Abandon colony?
Abandoning planets can be useful for raiding enemy systems. You come in, capture the planet, load any population you want, abandon it (scrap the facilites if you don't expect to secure the planet for a long time), and go home. If the enemy takes the planet back, he now has to ship in people to run it, and may or may not have to totally rebuild the facilities.
Also, if you play as a species that wants to exterminate all sentient races (like I do sometimes), it's a great way to wipe them out without needing neutron bombs. Actually, I wish troops could kill off a planet's population like in MOO2. I LOVED that feature.

Re: Abandon colony?
Well, you don't need troops to kill off a planet's population, just put them on a ship or base and space 'em. Much more evil, if you want to play the evil empire role, and it doesn't even make the population less happy, heh.

geeze, of course not! if you had an evil empire, would you let your evil press go around telling people things like that? what they dont know does not hurt them. ..and in other news, the leonid showers are expected to be brighter than usual this evening
