Happiness question
hi,
i (unfortunately?) made me a race that is "bloodthirsty" (not "peaceful") concerning the happiness type.
i looked into the happiness.txt and i saw that i will have a hard time in a pbw game :-)
now my question concerning treaties: do they affect the happiness just once(when treaty is accepted), or every turn?
and what is the starting happiness number? 0? or -100? what kind of scale is used with happiness?
are troops the best way to keep happiness high? i hope that "troops on planet = -2" means -2 PER troop, not -2 with all troops
thanx for answering my newbie questions.

Re: Happiness question
Playing bloodthirsty can be quite a challenge in the early game, but there are a few goodies in the happiness file for the endgame
Treaty bonus is just one time, once the treaty is made. Troops are -2 pr. troop, and you will need a lot of them to offset the colonization penalty. Go for troops at once and use a turn or 2 to build some on each planet. Also, a bit later in the game you can try to time your colonization to utilize the maximum anger change of 200 pr turn.

Re: Happiness question
k, i will research troops, because my people are unhappy at the moment, i think it's not long till they riot :-(
I saw that building a ship gets you -50 per turn? so i just need to pump out 4 ships every turn to get -200 change? sounds ok for me and easy to achieve in the later game...i hope this effect is empire wide, not only system wide.
I think you can abuse the treaty thing - if i change my treaty one turn from war to no treaty or non aggro and then back to war next turn and so on? that will give me -100 every second turn?!
edit: does "Any Planet Colonized := 10" mean that i get a penalty for every colonized planet EVERY turn? or just once? and when i capture a planet that will give me -50 every turn? that is going to be hard!

Re: Happiness question
IIRC, bonus for shipbuilding is only for the planet that builds the ship (same with troops BTW).
The treaty thing you suggest may work, but you will need a willing partner as the other empire has to confirm the NA
The penalty (10) for colonizing is empirewide and is for every planet you colonize during the whole game. That is the hard part.
-50 for capturing a planet are good. When you have your troops ready, start raiding and your people will be jubilant in no time

Re: Happiness question
Happiness is stored as the level of anger, from 0 to 100 (percent), not as the level of happiness. Negatives decrease anger, thus increasing happiness. Positives increase anger, thus decreasing happiness. Also, I believe that all values in Happiness.txt are in tenths of a percent, so "-2" is really "-0.2".

Re: Happiness question
IF you build troops and drop them on an unhappy planet, it will increase the planets happiness over time. The more troops teh faster the happiness will increase.
Also, if possible, positioning a fleet of ships over a planet will increase it's happiness.
