Reactor Modding
I'm currently trying to figure out how to add a series of Reactors into SE4. Basically, they will be 10kT comps that are required on all ships and bases. The first one you get will probably just give a few extra supplies, but increasingly powerful ones will add more supplies, movement bonuses, shield/weapon bonuses, supply regeneration, eventually ending with the Quantum Reactor with it's infinite supplies and all the other bonuses.
My problem is I with the shield/weapon bonuses. With shields, I want the bonus to be a percentage of the total. So, an Anti-Matter Reactor that gives 20% shield bonus would add 20pts to a ship with 100pts base, but at 200pts to a ship with 1000pts base.
With weapons, does anyone know if the values from CompEnhancement.txt will work in Components.txt? So if I add a Damage Percent ability onto my Reactor, will it actually increase the damage of the ship's weapons?
Any hints would be much appreciated.

Re: Reactor Modding
The modifiers from CompEnhancement.txt do not work in Components.txt, of course. And even in CompEnhancement they work on fixed percentages of the components own abilities. There is no way to check the ship's total shields or supplies and give a 'global' enhancement in SE IV. That would be a good suggestion for SE V though.

Re: Reactor Modding
Hmmm... Well even if I'm just increasing the component's own abilities (which would acutally work out to the same thing: 1 generator giving 100shields + 20%=120pts thus 10 generators of the same kind would give 1200), is there a way to do it from the Components.txt, so I could actually create a reactor component? I could create a mount that did the same thing, I suppose but I'd prefer to make a component since don't think CompEnhancement.txt supports bonus moves or extra supplies.
If it's not possible in SE4, then SE5 should definately support this kind of modding.

Re: Reactor Modding
Just have them include an auxsilary control and then delete that component and require it in the ship designs in the vehicle Design file.

Re: Reactor Modding
The closest you could come for weapon bonuses is to use the ability from the Death Shrine in Facilities.txt--but that affects the system as a whole. I believe Fyron's Adamant Mod has a component or two like that.

Re: Reactor Modding
Hmmm... Well I think a reactor that affects the whole system might be taking things a little too far. Well, consider it a request for SE5 then.
