Default Does Unrest optimally go down on its own?

Hiya.

Search didn't turn up an answer so I'm posting a terribly newbie question.

Will unrest never decrease without either tax reduction or patroling?

e.g. if I have a province with 8 unrest, will having a highly ordered friendly dominion eventually get rid of it, or is it permanent without an event, or one of the behaviors above?

Also which random events have nonzero unrest requirements and what are the thresholds?

Thanks,

Rabe

Positive dominion lowers unrest time after time, but this is fairly slow (good enough to get rid of 8 unrest points though). Order/Turmoil does not affect this: even with Turmoil-3, your Dominion will make unrest go down (unlike in Dominions 1, where Turmoil created unrest).

Unrest might hang at 5, 10 or 15... if some hidden magic blood site exists.

Each 10% reduction in taxes reduces unrest by aproximately 3.33 points if you own the dominion. If you want to clear 17 unrest quickly, drop the tax rate to 50 for one turn. It will clear to 0 or 1 on the following turn and stay at 0 indefinitely as long as you have dominion there or until you get a bad event.

Of course, one of the hidden blood sites will create unrest each turn:
For the 5 unrest site, keep the tax rate at 80% if you do not want it to grow.
The 10 unrest site requires 70%.
The 15 unrest site requires 50%, and you want to find that site as quick as possible. A blood mage can summon devils after you find it!

I do not have the slightest clue about the formula for "unrest drop due to positive Dominion". I actually can guess what it is though: the exact opposite of the "unrest increase due to negative Dominion" formula.

A bit more seriously, the Dominion effect on unrest is not dramatic (between two turns): I would say it is around 0.5 point per point of Dominion, maybe 1 unrest point per point of Dominion, every turn. It also appears that Dominion-1 provinces drop two unrest points every two turns, instead of losing one point every turn, but I haven't done any extensive testing.

I just conducted a quick test. My initial hypothesis is as follows:
Positive dominion = reduce unrest by a random integer from 0 to 2.

It did not seem to matter what the actual dominion level happened to be. It is possible that a higher dominion value made the unrest decrease by 2 more often than 0, but perhaps not. I certainly did not run enough tests to make a claim one way or the other.

The results of my unscientific test:
0 unrest reduction - 26 times
1 unrest reduction - 25 times
2 unrest reduction - 31 times

This small sample certainly supports the random theory. And yes, I did have a province with only 1 dominion reduce unrest by 2. I also had a 10 dominion province with a 0 result.

Using this untested theory, you can therefore assume that unrest will reduce by about 1 per turn per province in positive dominion.

Using Alneyan's opposite formula hypothesis, you can perhaps also assume that enemy dominion increases unrest by 0-2 with an average of 1 per turn.

Cheers

Edit - Oh, I used order 3, which may also have an effect.
