Default Inventing the Hyperdrive; The Starscape Mod

Hello everyone.

I am attempting to port my Starscape mod (from Stars!) over to SEIV Gold, with some improvements, but I've run into some problems. If any of you are Stars! players, you know that there is no such thing as warp points in the game. Ships travel at FTL speeds and such. I'm attempting to do something similar with the SEIV Starscape mod. I haven't had any luck creating a "hyperdrive" component that I could develop into a series of engines and tech area(s) that focus on giving ships an additional component that will replace needing to use warp points to get around.

If I can just figure out some solution for this, I can develop Starscape into a full total conVersion (which is what it was meant to be for Stars! originally). Eventually I would like to turn Starscape into its own game altogether.

The closest I ever got to this was to create a map that had a 'Hyperspace' system between every normal system on the map. I used the 'ship is pulled to center X squares / turn' attribute. Then I had the systems link to the center of the Hyperspace system and the links out of Hyperspace at the edges. Speed set to pull 4 squares / turn to center will delay most ships several turns.
Note: I noticed the AI had some difficulty with this setup.

Is this the same Starscape mod that is at Version 5 ?? I think now.

Done by Rob ????

Sorry cannot remeber the Last name.

The jump gates will be hard to overcome.

As will the Packet Launchers.

Good luck. Have you updated your website lately ???

All i can remember was that it played midi files on every page load

At least the pictures will be easy to port.

Are you going to create the Races as well ??

Yeah, that's the one.

The website doesn't get updated very often these days. I'm having less and less time to get around to this stuff now, but it does get updated every now and then.

Starscape is currently running episode 5 (4 is nearing an end with the players finally overcoming the Dominion and other loose ends being wrapped up).

Did you play? If so, who are you? I know and talk to most of the players every now and then, however my fans are mysterious. They float around and occasionally send me emails, but usually stay pretty quiet.

We've been on hiatus for about 3 weeks recently due to my appearance at a local science fiction convention, but we should be resuming shortly.

As for SEIV, I've had my eye on this game for quite some time and love all the detail (especially the robust tech trees). It would be nice to port Starscape over to SEIV, as it looks like the host gets alot more control than Stars! normally allows.

I have not played stars in about 2 years. I played it heavy way back 93-97.

I mostly played in the (trying to remember the name of the games.) ... I think it was called the nexus campaigns. They ran about 2 years.

I really enjoyed the game. Your series. I never played. Just used to go and read about the games every once in awhile.

U should enjoy this group of people.

SEIV will Last for a while. It has a good base of core people.

So when you get bored of the game you just play it to keep intouch with people.

As a stars player the only problem is that there is not enough micro mangement

U will see.

Modding is quite easy. AI is tricky. And the balance factor is tricky.

SO I would just design your mod for pbem and pbw games. It is just a suggestion.

And post any questions here. They will get answered.

Nice talking to you. I was known as Tesco in the stars days.
