Default unowned province reports?

Each turn, I get reports about the disposition of troops in territories adjacent to my own (even without a scout). What determines the accuracy of these reports? Are they better for provinces near one of my castles? Do these reports become more accurate over time? How about if I DO have a scout in a region? Also, why is it that reports seem to revert to "no reports on this province"? Is there any way to have the most recent esimates remain? Do some scouts give more accurate information than others?

Thanks!
Merry

When you have dominion in an area (yellow candle) then your influence has spread there. Some of the people there apparently like you and are bragging about the province so you will come conquer it. The information is rather variable though.

Scouts give reports even in provinces your dominion hasnt reached yet. And they can report the battles they watch (good for advance knowledge of the enemy and is favorite tactics)

Spys give better reports.

The auto-reports from borders list the number of enemy troops between 50% and 200 percent of actual strength, not including glamour troops (or even stealthy ones, I think). You can usually get a good guesstimate at the final figure by waiting two or three turns and checking what the report says every turn.

Thank you both for your helpful advice. Does the quality of the non-scout information improve with the strengh of my domain in an adjacent province?
