Simple question about cloaking
Ok, stupid question about cloaking: I have a cloaked fleet above an enemy planet, or through a sector with an enemy fleet. My fleet is simply orbiting, or passing through. Enemy planet or fleet does not attack. Does this mean they have no way to detect my cloaked ships?
Thx,
Alarik

Re: Simple question about cloaking
Yup.
Actually it just means that they don't have any sensors in that sector.

Excellent. Someone is gonna get a very big surprise. Late game, high tech, but without cloak detection on their ships...heh...heh...
Thanks!

Re: Simple question about cloaking
No. I just tested it, and planets cannot initiate combat with cloaked fleets, even if they can see them. If there is even so much as a single satellite in orbit, though, combat will occur if the player with the planet and satellite can see the cloaked fleet.

Really? This seems wrong to me. I can't say I've ever actually specifically tested it though. I guess I just assumed the planet would engage.
Alarik, If the cloaked fleet is sitting on the planet right now, does the planet show as blockaded? If they can see your ships then the planet should show up as blockaded. If they can't see you fleet, then it should not show up as blockaded.

You don't need sensors in the actual sector, only somewhere in the system.

Now that really doesn't make any sense to me, but I just tested it and it's correct. Cloaked ships blockade planets if and only if the owner of the planet can see them, and both players can see the blockaded status.

Re: Simple question about cloaking
Douglas, have you tested a planet that has fighters in cargo? I wonder if a planet with fighters, but no units or ships in orbit, would initiate combat with a cloaked fleet which it can see.

Re: Simple question about cloaking
Yeah, the planet is "blockaded" and my entire fleet is cloaked. And there are no units in space. I suppose I could ask him if he sees it...but I'd rather wait till the turn runs...heh...
The same fleet, I beleive, slipped right past one of his fleets. I take this to mean that he has no detectors in system.
thanks,
Alarik

Just tested it now, and only things actually in space can initiate combat. Planetary cargo might get used in combat, but it has no effect on whether combat takes place.
