Looking for GOOD AI
Hello everyone.
Usualy i play the quiet person in the game, who sits in the middle of the scores.
Well, in my Last game went on an attack on the enemy. The most advanced ship i ever saw was dreadnought with XII APBs and lvl III Ion Engines (no shields or sensors..).
And now im looking for an AI who will be able to beat me... (never lost any war..)
ANy suggestions?

Re: Looking for GOOD AI
Have you tried the Rage? In the Last few games I've played in a large galaxy they've racked up well over a million pts, 4.5 mill in one case. A good challenge although I'm starting to get overwhelmed by them. It's getting to the point where I feel like Terrans did in the Starfire universe fighting the Arachnid Omnivoracity.

Re: Looking for GOOD AI
Definitly try the Rage, they are a good enemy! Most of the TDM-ModPack races are a good shot as well, esp the Xi'Chung!(usually no 1 in the scores)...If your into something different try my Y'Gathian Free States (they use crystal/organic tech) or my Version of the Borg, both in the downloads section.
As always for a challenge start with med tech, high AI bonus and low bonus for AI resources (or med if you are truely in for a challenge)....This gives the AI less 'theory' techs to research and more weapons/armour etc....set the Tech research to low cost and away you go!
Have fun, and remember, be kind to the EEE!

Re: Looking for GOOD AI
I've been playing games with the max systems set at 100, large map, low starting tech level, med tech cost, high difficulty, and low AI bonus, with 2000 RP. Then I select the Colonials, Klingons, Norak, narn, Earth Alliance, Pyrochette, Rage, Romulan, Piudon, Sergetti, Xi'Chung from the TDM-Modpack, Q's CueCappa and Phong, the Atraikians and Zorians so I can continue to evaluate and improve them, 1 or 2 from some friends, and then fill in the 20 players with some of the more recent sets from here.
Every one of them has been very brutal, with at least one race being eliminated by turn 50 (other than any I take out), and have found that unless I'm using a playing style that I'm very comfortable with I have to struggle to stay in the top ten, and am frequently faced with AI races that have a good 20 tech levels on me. When I am using a syle that I am very comfortable with, I typically stay between 4th - 10th place and am only slightly behind on tech. One of the things I've found with this set up is the aggresiveness of the races selected makes it almost impossible to stay out of wars to build up, your continuously draining your resources to nothing in order to hold your borders. The peaceful races seem to get hit the worst because for some reason the psychotic races don't seem to like them (have never seen either the Rage or the Zorians make friends with them, yet I've seen the Zorians with a trade alliance with the Rage and military alliance with the AE while all three pounded the Phong to a pulp)

Re: Looking for GOOD AI
Definately try the races suggested.
You may want to try this type of set up for a real blood bath. It makes for a fun game once in a while.
Small quadrent 100K starting resources, good homeworld, 10 planets, any starting tech level, only colonize your home planet type, all races have same planet type for homeworld, 5000 points (only use 2-3k for yourself), no nuetrals, 10-15 AI's.
I feel that if I have enough time, I can set my defenses up to where I am almost guaranteed to win. In this set up will have you in a war in 5-10 turns against an AI that can pump out ships so you don't have that cushion.
