Problem with Sudanese Pack Howitzer
An HE fire mission cannot be selected for Unit 284 (M2 PH Team, Sudan). The icon for HE fire is not available withen the bombard menu, however the icon for smoke is available.
Perhaps this was due to design as the weapon itself is crude and doesn't lend to calculated bombardment?

Re: Problem with Sudanese Pack Howitzer
Looks like there is a difference in weapon class here - this weapon is marked as being class 3, while the other pack howitzers in same OOB are either class 3 or class 7 depending on caliber.

No, that weapon is shown as being class 2 not 3 and that is the reason it's not showing up with HE to fire in the indirect fire menu. Changing to class 3 solves that issue but creates another that I am currently investigating. However, that said, I still suspect it was originally set up as class 2 so that particular weapon could NOT be fired indirectly as there would be no way to reliably do so with a shoulder fired weapon. The "bug" is that it does show up in the menu for indirect smoke

Re: Problem with Sudanese Pack Howitzer
I've put this on the list to look into when we start work on the games again. Given it's a shoulder aimed carl gustav I suspect, but won't know until I dig into it, that this wasn't intended to be used for indirect fire work but this was a place to put it into the OOB OR someone long ago decided to give this a try as an experiment and see if anyone complained or commented

Re: Problem with Sudanese Pack Howitzer
Afghanistan has something similar, with unit n.53 Gustav PH Team.
Off hand I have heard about the rebels occasionally using RPG-7s for indirect fire in the 80's if no mortars were available but naturally it was not very effective in that tole.

I think there is something similar in the Chechen OOB as well.
I seem to recollect that one of the OOB development team we used to have had a 'thing' about improvised HE chucking devices. That is why "SPA" HE RCL jeeps and things popped up all over the place, along with shoulder launched RL "HE" items.
Some of these things cannot meet the minimum range for indirect fire though, and so may have problems if plotted for it. (They should probably have been classed as a mortar class perhaps?).
So - if you spot one of these things, let us know and we will attempt to fix it.

Re: Problem with Sudanese Pack Howitzer
Even the US army OOB has a HE-chucking version of the Carl Gustav recoilless rifle (weapon 28, 84mm Gustaf HE). This has a range of 20 as compared to the usual range of 9 given to the same weapon while using HEAT rounds.
Not sure if it actually appears on any of the units in the current OOB, but it is used in at least one scenario (On the Old Silk Road).

Re: Problem with Sudanese Pack Howitzer
The HE version of HEAT weapons are generally given longer ranges in the game as they can acheive the extra distances but are not accurate as AT weapons at those ranges
