MULTIPLAYER!!!!

I'm hoping to see soon, a multiplayer set up for a lan game that doesn't require me to send and files to my friend on his computer. I would like to see a similtaneous game play like in the game Reach for the Stars. I'm really not impressed that the creators did not think to put this feature into the game.

so does anyone know of a way to play like this or if a future patch will save this gaming experience for me.
