Default Problems with Happiness bug??

I seem to have a problem with the happiness in my games. I basically don't even have to worry about it. Even the races I conquer are Jubilant within 2-3 turns. My race is stock as far as happiness, I don't build any 'attitude improvement' facilities.

I do get the Messages about my population getting happier because I have a huge military presence in the system--that I understand.
I don't understand the fact of my conquered peoples going from Angry to Jubilant in 2 turns even with a huge fleet in the same system. The fleet isn't even over the planet!

I've played with 3-4 different races so far (made up, not MM's) and without ever messing with the happiness factor I never have any problems with it.
Is it just me?

For me it has varied, but in my Last game as soon as I took them as mine the people loved me unconditionally. Not even 2 turns involved & I haven't amde any real alterations to that aprt of the game (I did light tweaking of the happiness files, but only to better balance a few issues & actually decrease happiness at some events)... Don't aks me what's causing these things to happen...

I don't know what happens or why either, but in my current game I have gotten 2 AI's to surrender and they're constantly going back and forth between angry and rioting all the time. Have been for about 40-50 turns now. I built Urban Pacif III's in all the systems and have fleets of up to 10 ships in those systems (about 12-14 systems are rioting) -even ground troops and fighters - and nothing seems to help.

The two races are totally different - 1 is a bloodthirsty race but should be happy 'cause I've been at war with another AI for about 25 turns now. The other race was a peaceful merchant species so I can see why they may be rioting.

It might be in the game settings 'cause I play all the AI bonuses, bad events, etc. to try and make it a little challenging. All this rioting makes it more of a challenge. Especially while I'm trying to build my first ringworld (for this game anyway) and they (the captured AI's) are supposed to be providing me with all those minerals from my slave mines.........

I sure would like to be like Shadow and Cryptotec too. I don't usually get too much rioting, but would like the extra bonuses that come with a jubilant population.
Did you guys boost up your happiness factor as one of your attributes, maybe pick artisans or something?
