Default Dave\'s Mod

Has anyone used this mod? It seems to be very interesting, but I am so new at computers I'm nervous about spoiling what I have now. When He says backup original files does that mean to copy every file and put it in seperate folder.
P.S sorry for this kindergarden question, but I do need an easy way that you guys know. Thanks

I have not tried it for the same reason. I do not want to spoil what I am doing right now.

I will give it a shot as soon as I am done with my current game. It does sound interesting, but I have not read any ones report on it.

I seldom see Derek post, and that too might be cause for concern.

Then again, it might be a rocking mod, but who really knows? Any takers?

Stockman: yes, copy then put all the files or just copy the folder and place it elsewhere (folder named SE IV backup maybe).

Then install the MOD per his readme.txt file. If the game doesn't work properly, then putcopy the originals back, they should automatically overwrite the MOD files.

Good luck!

To back up the data files:
In Windows Explorer 95/98 select the
Space Empires IV\Data folder and CTRL+C it then I just pasted it (CTRL+V) in the backup directory in the SEIV folder. I then did the same thing with the Ai folder. That way I can just copy those back instead of reinstalling when I want to use a different mod.
OR
You could also install SEIV again in a different directory (if you have a lot of hard drive space) and just mod that Version.

I have played parts of a few games with Derek's mod it's really cool as it makes missiles and fighters a lot stronger to compensate for tactics like outrunning missiles and Point Defence hitting more than one fighter per shot. The engineering department is neat but I don't think it can repair components on the ship it is on. (I believe repair is the same way right?)

Also the computer players don't use some of the ship hulls correctly like the Ark Ship nor do they utilize the new components. This is because the AI design creation files weren't modified to go with the new files. Though the AI does use ECM and combat sensors with this mod.

I definately think it would be fun in multiplayer though. Just not sure if the new missiles and fighters are balanced with the old weapons.
