Can\'t get Dom II to work with a Radeon 9800
This was mentioned in another thread, but I thought I'd start a new thread to keep it from getting swallowed.
I just installed a Radeon 9800 card and now Dom II won't run. I've tried full screen and windowed mode. I've tried the 3.8 and 3.9 drivers, as well as those Omega drivers someone linked in the sticky thread, but nothing. I click the icon, the game looks like it's launching (and if I'm trying full screen, it even changes resolution), but then I get dumped back to windows.

Re: Can\'t get Dom II to work with a Radeon 9800
Hi.
I'm not saying it will work, but you might try the solution I posted in the thread that is stickied on top of the page about solving the same kind of problem with Win 98. I guess it can't hurt to try.
edit:
Do you have a stderr.txt file in the Doms II folder that says:
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)
?
If so, it might be the same problem I had, and hence the same solution, although I have radeon 7200 and Win 98.
Also, if the graphic is all garbled up/game won't start properly in the fullscreen mode, alt-enter into windowed mode, and then alt-enter again. This should fix it for some reason.

HJ, I have the stderr.txt file, but it's empty (perhaps because I had to reinstall my GeForce card to run the game?).
I don't have the *.dll you mentioned from the first Dom handy, though. Do any of the guys here from Illwinter think it's worth reinstalling Dom I to get that file? If so, I'll give it a shot.

Re: Can\'t get Dom II to work with a Radeon 9800
I can mail it to you (it's a 220kb file), if that's legal. But I guess if you already reinstalled the Nvidia card, it would be a hassle to try it all over again. Yet, it might be indicative to Illwinter that something is going on with the sdl.dll that ships with the Doms II demo if you manage to solve the problem in the same manner, so they can fix/repack it, or something similar. You can also download the demo of Doms I, found on Illwinter's site, which contains the working .dll I mentioned (that's how I got mine).
Hope you make it work.
Cheers,

I don't know how relevant this is but I noticed trying to start dominions 2 with ati hydravision enabled causes it to crash. I don't think it crashes in the way you described so I'm not sure what your problem is.

Re: Can\'t get Dom II to work with a Radeon 9800
I got this mail from ChrisK earlier. Maybe going back to the 3.7 drivers will help for you too. Otherwise trying with the older sdl file might be a solution too. SDL is the graphics library used, so it is a likely culprit when it comes to driver incompabilities.

Just uninstalled Cat3.8 drivers for my Radeon and re-installed Cat3.7. Your demo works like a dream now! So best be careful with the latest Radeon drivers. Maybe you could post a message to your forum about this. /Chrisk
