Technical questions - sound & refresh
I just got a new system yesterday, and finally had the chance to install Doms today. However, I've been experiencing some technical problems with the game, namely:
1) The sound is stuttering. There are some sort of crackling noises when the music plays, as if the speakers went bad, but I have no problems with other games or audio files.
2) The refresh rate stays at the 60Hz even though my desktop at the same resolution (1024/768) is at 85Hz. Is there any way that I can adjust the refresh rate in the full-screen application?
Thanks for the replies, your time is appreciated.
Specs:
Athlon XP 2600+
Radeon 9600 XT
1Gb RAM
Gigabyte 7N400 Pro2 MoBo
onboard nForce2 audio
Windows XP Pro
All the latest drivers
Cheers,

Re: Technical questions - sound & refresh
Change your sound to Waveout and the stuttering should go away.
As for the refresh rate. That is hard to say. I don't know any way other than making applications unable to change the refresh rate. ( I have a NVidia GeForce FX 5900 256Mb Video Card that I just let the applications choose the settings ).
Sorry if that is no help.

The radeon has been mentioned often for some reason. One of the threads is pinnned near the top. You can use the "search" link in the upper right of the screen to look for the others.

Re: Technical questions - sound & refresh
Thanks Zen, I seem to have missed the part that changing sound settings requires quitting the game...
And to answer my own question, and so that anybody else who encounters the same thing might find it here, I went to display properties-settings-advanced-displays-monitor and set refresh rate override to "same as desktop", and that fixed the problem. It was explained before for Nvidias, but not for Radeons, and that's why I asked the question - I didn't know Radeon drivers had that feature.
