Default Fever fetish and gems of fire

Well, I made the mistake of equiping some rather useful and valuable Master Smiths (I'm playing ULM) with these little trinkets and I figured that I would run them down to 3-4 hp and then take them off and let them rest.

Well, the disease STAYS on the poor guys and I had 4 smiths drop dead in one turn (with their Last gasp completing various forgings) but I lost the items they were equiped with and have been at a loss on how to handle this.

I've made a few rings of regeneration but haven't had enough time go by yet to see how effective these items are. And I don't have the chalice available to me yet either. The only spell casters I have available (besides the master smith and my Pretender) are Druids.

How are you guys dealing with the fever fetish damage that accumulates?

Many folk summon undead commanders solely for this purpose. Undead are unaffected by disease.

or put them on a scout. you can afford 20gp.

Master Smiths are likely not the best vehicle for them

Rings of regeneration will generally keep the diseased alive, though they will keep getting afflictions and so at some point become pretty useless. However eventually you may get a source of magical healing which can cure them. See my story about this on the "affliction record" thread.

Okay. Here's a good one. Something that I do (and this might be totally useless but it's a habit) is I have a priest in every province preaching long after the armies have left. In essence I garrison a priest.

Well the priest not really doing anything, gets a fever fetish and a ring of regeneration. He accumlates afflictions but his hit points remain at his max. So far this has been working out really well. And the priest being sacred is cheaper in terms of maintenace than scouts (over the long term) and typically they are sitting on a laboratory so the gems they make can be pooled. Can't do that with scouts if they are out and about.

And I just discover the Ruby Eye which weeps water gems so I'll plug a few priests with that one next.....

Isn't the ruby eye unique? So you probably want to keep it for a fire mage.
