Default Searching for sites multiple times ?

I got a little confused.
The manual states you don't have to search a province twice.
If a certain site is not there after one search it won't be there after a second search either.

So, I search a province with a N3E2 mage and I get nothing.

Later I search that province again with my new Lamia Queen D2N2 (desperately looking for my first Death gems) and she finds the "Den? of Verdant Greenery" which produces 1 nature gem/month.

Now why does a lvl 2 Nature mage finds that one while my lvl 3 mage earlier didn't ?

Hmm. Either you were mistaken about the earlier search, or you ran into a bug that I have not heard of before. Your understanding of the game mechanic is correct: searching a province in a given magic path a second time with a mage of equal or lesser power than you used for the first search will not reveal any more sites. And no site takes more than 4 in a path to reveal. The level 4 sites are very rare (and valuable).

No mistake on my part there as far as I can see, guys.

I just double checked to make absolutely sure : the info in the top left corner clearly says : this province has been checked by 2E 2D 3N 1B
My God (the Earthmother) is 2E3N and I definitely got NO results from that search as the Glen of Verdant Green is still the ONLY site in that province.
The Lamia Queen is 2N 2D 1B and I was very happy when I got the message that she had found a site on her very first search (province next to my capitol) as I figured it meant I had struck my first income of Death gems - so I could finally start thinking of those research enhancing skull caps.
Much to my surprise I didn't get Death gems but Nature Gems.

You should report this in the bug thread. And, if you have saved game files from before and after you searched, I'd suggest that you send the files to IW to help them track this bug down and squash it.

Is the Den of Verden a death site that produces nature gems, or a nature site? Is the icon green or black?

If it was a death site then it makes perfect sense why your Lamia queen found it.

According to this chart on Sunray_be's page:

http://www.freewebs.com/dominions2/sites.xls

The Glen of Verdant Greenery is a N1 only site. Could be out of date I suppose. But the Version on Arryn's site says the same thing.

Either the properties of this site have been altered in a recent patch or somehow your first mage was not functioning as a Nature magician at all.

I took a look at my Nations Overview and noticed there that the Great Mother has done 4 searches (she's my only Earth Mage) and discovered NOTHING in those four tries.
There is another province though where I made a second search (to find any Air-sites) , this time with my Prophet/Mother of Avalon and that resulted in the finding of Farm of Plenty, Forest of Delights and the Ice Mists.

So, my guess is, the Great Mother's "search" command doesn't work.

Guess I'll put it in the bug thread ?

I'll add the Last save game as well, so you can check it out for yourself if you want to.

-EDIT- I wanted to add the .trn file but it's not accepted.
How do I attach a save game ?

I dont think that is turned on globally. For now its only in the Mod/Scenario forum and that has to be approved before its saved. We have forums going back for years so attachments will probably need to be thouight about before we open it further.

You can explain your case and email it, with the file attached, to info at the illwinter.com site. Or if you have a little home page thing with your ISP you can put the file there then post it to the bugs thread with a link to it.
