Prob a silly question, but...re: Production
What adds to what in production? e.g. if you have a Mineral Scanner, Eco-Farm and a Robotoid Factory, does the Robotoid Factory override the Mineral Scanner, or do they complement one another? If a System Robotoid Factory is added, does it add to a System Mineral Scanner or replace it? I am not at all sure how these beasties add/interact with one another.

Re: Prob a silly question, but...re: Production
When non-stacking abilities match, the maximum is used. By non-stacking, note that the description of the RFs, etc, note that only one per planet matters; or, one per system (for a System RF). Actually, it's the *ability*, not the component, that isn't stacking.
A Robotoid Factory, for instance, has *three* abilities: roughly, "Increase FOO Production by X%" for each resource. A Mineral Scanner uses the exact same abilities (well, only one of them), so unless the MS level (I,II,III) is greater than the RF level, it's not giving you anything; "Increase FOO Production by X%" is a non-stacking ability. An MS II with an RF I should give you +20%/+10%/+10% resource production, methinks.
Note, however, that "Increase FOO Production by X% in System" is a separate ability from the per-planet one, so a System RF *does* stack with an RF, or with a Mineral Scanner. But you won't get any benefit from an SMS whose bonuses are less than or equal to those of a SRF since this also is a non-stacking ability.

Re: Prob a silly question, but...re: Production
Thanks Taqwus...I was wondering why the thing kept telling me I already had a facility that did this when I was adding a SMS when I knew I did not since I had just discovered it. In actuality, I did since I already had a SRF. Now I can open some production space on my planets since this is the case. Thanks again...

Just to follow up, I went back and read what you had typed again. If you have a RF III and a MS III and an EF III and a RS III, then the MS, EF, and RS are not giving you anything, right? You can kill those to build more stuff and not lose anything? You can add a SRF III to the system and delete the SMS III, the SEF III and the SRS III and not lose anything system wide, correct?

Re: Prob a silly question, but...re: Production
Right. If you've got an RF III on a colony, there's no reason to still have MS III/EF III/RC III, since they wouldn't give you any additional benefits... and once an SRF III is built, you can scrap your SMS/SEF/SRC's as well. So I normally research Computers up to 9, but don't bother with minerals/organics/radioactives beyond 3... and maybe not even that if I've gone the Monolith Facility route (a Monolith III plus a good Resource Converter produces significantly more resources per facility slot than a mineral facility, except on worlds with extremely skewed min/org/rad values). The Computers branch is good juju anyway, with Master Computers and all.
