Default Curiosity about air transport

I'm making an airport scenario. I purchased some air transport units from the misc section of the purchase area. They appear on the map when in the editor. I'm able to place them on the map with no problem.

But when I start the scenario, they are not there. The opposing troops never find them I move them right into the hexes where I've located them and there is nothing.

I am using one on the other side as a transport to land troops on the same airfield. Now that is the human player side. It appears just fine. But the AI aircraft (I've had these with move factors and without) never do.

I'm going to try it from the AI side and see if they appear.

So is their purpose simply to carry troops. So far none of them appear in the "replace" menu so you can't switch them out.

I guess you could buy them and the paras separate and use them in that way.

But can you make them appear on a map for the AI side as parked aircraft?

Thanks in advance.

First paragraph of the "air transports and gliders" sub section of the bombardment menu:

Quote:

Transport aircraft and gliders are shown on map in turn 0 pre game deployment, so that you can load the passengers into them. After deployment is finished, they will be stripped off map, therefore remember to load up the appropriate troops, or you will not be able to in the game!

Transport aircraft simply are there so you can throw troops out of perfectly good planes, while dangling on big white hankies. No plane type lands or takes of from the map.

For parked aircraft you need to use something other than a "real" transport plane. See units 428-433 in the UN OOB in Mobhack. (Probably available in the utility vehicle formation on the pprchase screen).

Cheers
Andy

Go to the Allies button and then set equipment to UN and captured. Then go into Misc and Utility Vehicle buttons. There are several "Grounded" planes in there that should fit your needs.

There appears to be only one way to make it work. Using all the advice above, they still don't appear on the map unless you make them reinforcing units, say on turn one.

When you do that, they do appear on the map on the appropriate turn.
