Default Tough Scenarios

Okay I hate to be the first, but I'm stuck. I'm playing through the Campaign and I have no clue as to how to win the third Orc scenario "On the Offense". It seems that taking Dwarf cities is the key but if I get more then one and can hold it, I'm doing great. If you don't take the cities, the dwarf will just overwhelm you. And with the unlock method of campaigning, it gets very frustrating being unable do anything else. Thoughts?

tnx.

Interestingly enough, I would argue that Orc3 (On the Offense) isn't necessarily that hard, although many of the beta testers got stuck on it too.

I think what helped them beat it was that they realized that that particular mission is very unique in that the player has a lot of cash up front. Use it to build a powerful army as quickly as you possibly can! Make sure you take minimal losses, because you won't earn any more money. And taking cities sooner rather than later is generally a good idea. You won't get money from cities you own, but neither will your opponent, which is the most important thing. Just keep spending your money as quickly as possible, and once you have a larger force than your opponent, you can push that advantage by killing his units almost as soon as he makes them.

I hope that helps!

I was just going to note that I found the "secret". There's probably more then one way to do it, but for now (not to make it too easy) I'll just say that conservation worked for me.

Thanks for your help.

Just to contribute to your post, I would like to add that in my notes I have marked this scenario as an easy one...
But you will have the chance to play some tough scenarios after a while.

p.s Hiro, I tried to refresh my memory about this scenario but I couldn't run my beta version because it has expired...

Well then, I guess I am the dunce of the class. I replayed this scenario (On The Offense) about a dozen times and was no closer to success the last attempt than I was on the first.

Saying you should out-build your opponent and capture cities quickly, is all well and good. Actually doing that is another matter. It is hard to drain the swamp when you are up to your um, 'behind' in alligators.

I finally resorted to editing the .wad file to get past this scenario. Alas, whenever I resort to that sort of thing, my enjoyment of the rest of the game is lessened.

I want to say one word to you. Just one word. Ogres.

At least on normal difficulty, they are the only troops that you need to defeat this mission. They can survive the dwarfs high damage attacks very well, and with careful management, you can manage to finish it without losing a single unit. Capture the topmost cities first, and recycle your ogres back to captured cities for healing as they get wounded. Eventually, you will have enough that you can kill anything the dwarfs send at you in a single turn, and it becomes a matter of capturing their cities.

Yeap, Ogres will do the trick. Basically, you want to spend your cash as fast as possible, because otherwise you will get overwhelmed. It's fairly easy to take the dwarf town just northeast of you, and then you can get a smith and an ogre each turn for a while, which will pretty much guarantee victory.

MeMyselfAndl,

This is rather late as your post is in Feb (before I even heard of this game) but I hate to see you give up.

Don't give up. Have another try. I just finished my campaign so memory is still fresh even though I don't have the game with me.

T1 Mystic.
T2 Orge, <second wind> Ogre
T3 Mystic
etc.

I found that an Ogre and a Mystic is sufficient to kill the Tank that the AI keep sending up towards my capital on the first few turns. Keep a second pair for rotation as the initial pair gets wounded. Send an Ogre or two to influence the neutral city to the East and build dwarven units to help you conquer the other cities north of the mountain range. Use the fountain and cities to heal your troops. In the meantime use units build in the capital to push SE. I had little trouble capturing the first city using second wind. The rest should be quite straight forward (an remember to trap tanks against non-clear terrain).

I lost very few units in this scenario.
