New Scenario - \"Kiowa Down\" Iraq, 9/2004
This a US rescue mission based on the first Stryker units to see combat in Iraq. Follow the link at the end of this text for a detailed account of the battle. I've made some minor changes for the sake of gameplay, but overall it's fairly accurate.
Special thanks to Tom D. for his invaluable help.
Description: Based on a documentary from the Military Channel. The following is from their website:
A "routine mission" in Iraq on Sept. 4, 2004, turned into a raging firefight for Stryker troops with the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Scout Platoon, and B Company of the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, as they fought off heavy fire (including 60-mm mortars and RPGs) in a rescue mission launched after Iraqi insurgents shot down a Kiowa helicopter and swarmed to capture it and the two pilots. Kiowa Down has all the action and drama of Black Hawk Down, but with a happy ending. The soldiers of 5-20 said this mission was the most intense fight they had encountered since being deployed in December 2003. B Company killed 66 enemies, and the Scout Platoon killed 46. (There were also 17 wounded.) The number of Americans killed in action: zero. There were only five U.S. wounded, in addition to the two pilots.
If playing against the AI, you should play the USA side.
There are 3 major objectives for the US player. 1: Load the wounded pilots into the MedEvac Stryker (turn 3) and bring them to safety at the edge of the map. 2: Bring the flatbed truck (turn 4) to the crash site and load the downed Kiowa, then drive to safety at the map edge. 3: Secure and hold the crash site. Each of these are high cost and must be protected.

Re: New Scenario - \"Kiowa Down\" Iraq, 9/2004
I took a peek at this. Looks good. 07:00 here so I'll get to it later. I wanted a tan colour for the Strykers but realised they will be easier to see as green.
I right clicked on the insurgent "pickup truck" the LBM flickers/moves/morphs. A Chevy? You couldn't find a Toyota?
Any trick to getting the Kiowa on it's transport?
Thanks for the battle.

Couldn't get the tan Strykers...the OOB default for desert is green. It can be changed thru Mobhack.
You got something against Chevy?
The downed Kiowa will load on the flatbed using the "load" key when they're in the same hex. Other than that, I don't want to give away any tricks.
Let me know how you like the scenario.

Let's support Beeg in his scenario design efforts. Tom D is a tester of mine and now does his own scenarios too. I know he was a big help to you. He is to me too. In fact all the Wild Team is great!
Tom told me about your scenario and I'll look forward to playing it. It sounds good. I saw the documentary so I have some background.
Good luck in your design efforts, Beeg.

Thanks Bill,
I appreciate your support. I understand you have a full plate right now but I would value your input once you get a chance to play it.
When I saw the documentary on TV, I thought to myself "that's a battle that would be ideal for SP". With Tom's help, it turned out fairly well...after about a zillion revisions

Re: New Scenario - "Kiowa Down" Iraq, 9/2004
Hey all,
I was part of the unit that was involved during the "Kiowa Down" incident in Tal a'far, Iraq. I am very excited to see that there is a recreation of that in a game. Please tell me how to get ahold of this game, so I can inform others as well. Thanks.

WinSPMBT Page:
http://www.shrapnelgames.com/Camo_Wo.../MBT_page.html
- If you have Windows Vista or 7, then first read the installation instructions for those operating systems (sticky post at the top of the main forum). You will have to change the default path away from /program files/, essentially, since Microsoft totally messed up the way programmes are handled with vista onwards.
Linky to the vista/7 destructions: http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=47170
- Download and install the game file.
- Then download and install all the update patches for the game. These can be found on that page as well in a box just below the main file. Apply all the patches in order from the earliest to the latest. If you have Vista or Windows 7, then you will have to update the default path for each patch installer as described in the Windows vista/7 instructions as for the initial install.
- Once the game is installed and running and you have played the tutorial (see the tutorial walk through in the manual Game Options Programme->Help Tab->Game Manual button->Playing WinSPMBT - Tutorial), download and install the scenario from this thread to the \scenario folder as usual. (Game Options Programme->Help Tab->Game Manual button->Installing Third-party scenarios link)
Cheers
Andy
