Default Bug? Offmap SPSAM

Is it intended that you can force opfor SPSAMs to retreat off the map, from where they rally and then fire on targets on the map? It happens to me, anyway...

If it is not a bug then I think the long range SAMs should be moved off map (if possible). You wouldn't normally find a high value SAM unit within 10 KM of the front line.

off map SAM should not be able to fire - probably a minor bug in there somewhere. I'll look into it after the WinSPWW2 work is done.

Cheers

Please don't remove the ability of off-board arty firing SAM's at incoming aircrafts, now that finally they get the same hit percentage as equivalent on-board units

For clarification.

I did some test (me vs. AI) with opfor SPSAMs getting forced off the map with onmap ARTY (cluster ammo). You dont want to kill the SPSAMs with MLRS, just make them running.
If they rally offmap and fire, the missile will enter the map at location (1,1). Like a secret ninja SAM site behind enemy lines...

All off map units live at -1,-1. So the missile will arrive from about there. (Offmap arty arrival is fixed by player side, so does not originate from the 0,0 hex. The missile firing offmap is a bug, and so has no correction applied)

This was the reason you got the "amusing" bug in the original SSI code with retreated helicopters fighting crews or batteries offmap - thier original code had no offmap test in the targeting routines for direct fire

Looks like there is some of this legacy "no-testing for offmap" with the SAM code. I'll hunt it down after the SPWW2 coding is done.

Cheers
