10. Infanterie-Division - scenarios
10. Infanterie-Division
10. Infanterie-Division (mot)
10. Panzergrenadier-Division
[/b]
1939-1945
The 10. Infanterie-Division was raised in Bavaria as one of the Wehrmacht’s first wave divisions. It took part in the occupations of Austria, the Sudetenland and Czechoslovakia. In early August 1939 it was transported to the east of Germany and concentrated near Gross Wartenberg. There it received the signal for the coming invasion of Poland on the very last day of August:
“Fall Weiss – 1.9.1939 – 4.45 Uhr”
…and WWII began for the men of the 10. Infanterie-Division as they advanced across the Polish-German border into the thick morning fog of September 1, 1939, at precisely 0445 hours.
One of the less celebrated Wehrmacht formations the 10th division, later converted to motorised and finally Panzergrenadier status, would remain in the thick of the fighting throughout the war, chiefly in the east - where many of the troops were to remain, in unmarked graves, ‘ohne Kruez, ohne Blume’.
This thread will contain scenarios chronicling the war service of the 10. Division.

Re: 10. Infanterie-Division - scenarios
Scen 375
Prosna Bridgehead
September 1, 1939,
Wyszanow, Poland
Once the initial border crossing had been achieved the three Schwadronen of Aufklärungs Abteilung 10, the reconissance unit of the 10. Infanterie Division, was given the assignment to race ahead of the division main body and secure a crossing site on the Prosna river, near Wyszanow. It seemed like a relatively easy mission…

Re: 10. Infanterie-Division - scenarios
Scen 376
Hard Fighting
September 2, 1939,
Leliwa, Poland
Moving across the Prosna river in force the troops of IR20 and IR41 led the advance of 10. Infanterie-Division against delaying efforts by Polish troops, a mix of militia, snipers and regular troops – ironically these forces came mostly from the Polish 10th Infantry Division.
At the villages of Leliwa and Huta Klonowka II and III Battalions of IR41 came up against stiff resistance…, the villages would not be taken without hard fighting…

Re: 10. Infanterie-Division - scenarios
September 4-5, 1939
Having reached the Warthe river just north of Sieradz, the commander of Infantry Regiment 41 decided on a night crossing to breach the fortified line running along the eastern side of the river. The assignment to lead the attack fell upon the III Battalion…
