Default German Unit Organization/Abbreviation Question

Hi,

Does anyone know of a good online source for Heer unit abbreviations?

For example, in the US Army the 1st platoon of A Company of the 2nd Battalion of the 27th Armored Regiment would be written 1/A/2-37 AR. I'm trying to figure out what the Heer equivalent of something similar would look like.

Also did German tanks use "bumper numbers" similar to the US practice i.e. US Army tanks in 1st platoon, A Company would be A11, A12, A13 & A14 (in the newer system)?

Thanks,

Adrian

I'm not sure if this helps you, but in terms of bumper numbers, the Prime Portal has some pictures where you can see them on various German vehicles. Might help with trying to decode the format if there isn't simply someone around here who has an actual source.

I could do with some info. on this topic too. Any information about the Wehrmacht (WWII I know, but please humour me) would be appreciated too.

Simple - the tank pictures belongs to 5th company/Panzerbataillon 104. That would be 5./PzB104 - Check out http://www.panzerbataillon104.de.tt/ - they even got the famous German Panzerlied and other songs from the 30s available for download...

No 'bumber numbers' down below company level AFAIK.
