Default Warp point question

Recently picked up this game and the option "No warp points" Confuses me when starting a new game, I mean it's fun being isolated and everything but then comes the question.. How would you ever meet anyone else? Is there a point where you can make your own warp points? I've yet to see it or a full tech tree (google failed me, but it did bring me here)

Yes, if you research Stellar Manipulation eventually you can do all sorts of things, like open warp points and blow up starts and planets.

It is fun sometimes because you meet empires that may be more advanced or pitifully outgunned depending on their own starting location.

Ahh, I just didn't get far enough down into there then. Thanks (I had a feeling it was there, but first few levels just gave me that one building that gives 3k each material so I went blah to it) Still wouldn't mind seeing a full tech tree somewhere.

You can close war points as well, which lets you do something called turtling. You close all the warp points in a system and then build a system shield that prevents more from being opened. you are essentially invulnerable.

The stock tech tree sucks... making most techs have 100 levels is just bad for gameplay and balance. Sigh...

Tampa Gamer made a tech chart for the game a while back. It hasn't been updated since 1.08, but it should still be mostly accurate.
